Google Voice: A user review

August 8, 2009

I’ve spent the the last week and a half playing around with Google Voice and have a few thoughts to share.  I’m not going to run through all the features (though for convenience I have listed all below), just the most important features from the point of view of someone who is constantly starved for time.

Overall: For people who have a hard time staying on top of calls and voicemail from work, mobile and home lines, it provides some very powerful and helpful features.  However, it’s not without its drawbacks.  Let’s cover the Pro’s first and then move onto Cons, followed by what needs to/should/I would really, really like to come next Read the rest of this entry ?

Want to avoid speed traps? There’s an app for that!

July 29, 2009

In a recent Mashable article, I learned of an iPhone app that improves upon the ancient ritual of flashing your lights to warn fellow drivers of nearby speed traps.  Trapster is an ingenious little app that, once installed, uses your phone’s GPS signal to track your location and give you a verbal warning when you approach areas that commonly have speed traps.

What’s cool about this app is that it is socially driven, depending on local roadsters to populate it’s database of traps.  Read the rest of this entry ?

Hi All – Today, in my first audio-blog,  I’ve got some quick thoughts on technology and the barriers to social media participation…in addition to verbally introducing myself.  Let me know your thoughts and comments on the short talk and/or the new format.

Cheers, Chris

2 amazing iPhone apps

April 25, 2009

You may be aware of the iPhone’s accelerometer which allows an iPhone browser screen to rotate to a landscape view when the phone is rotated horizontally.  Since the App store opening 9 months ago we’ve seen better and better use of this and really all of the iPhone’s built in features.  Game apps aside, one truly amazing app to highlight is the new Absalt Easy WakeUp app.   Read the rest of this entry ?

Tweet Tweet everywhere

March 27, 2009

The most fun I have had with my new iphone by far is using it to tweet updates to my twitter page from the road.   What defines the road? Really it could be anywhere except a where one uses a computer.   I’ve tried a few deskbound tweets and have to say the feeling is just not the same as it is when I am tweeting from traffic, in line at Dunkin Donuts, at the bank, cruising around town with Ryan in a stoller.  Men were not meant to tweet from a desk or laptop.   Men were meant to tweet from everywhere!!!

Sent from my iPhone

March 8, 2009

Finally, after months telling myself an iPhone won’t make life that much better I’m happy to say I broke down and got one, and that it actually does make things easier…so life does become a little better. Read the rest of this entry ?

My Future iPhone

October 24, 2008

With the introduction of the “Google phone” and the RIM’s upcoming answer to the iPhone, these experts are predicting that Apple will have to lower its price on the iPhone to keep competitive.  That’s cool, but I’m holding out for the iPhone coming to Verizon.  That would give Apple another HUGE chunk of the market.  Probably moreso than just cutting price.  Until that happens, I wait…
